Fuel specialist Coryton is said to have introduced the UK’s first publicly available sustainable petrol designed specifically for classic vehicles.

Available to buy now at Bicester Heritage, the firm says its Sustain Classic fuel allows owners to power their vintage cars with plant-based petrol, without the need for engine modifications.

Coryton claim it delivers a reduction of at least 65 percent in greenhouse gas emissions compared to fossil fuels

The Sustain Classic range comprises three types of fuel, all developed by Coryton. These fuels incorporate second-generation biofuel derived from agricultural waste, such as straw and by-products, or waste from non-food crops.

By utilising carbon already present in the atmosphere, absorbed by plants as they grow, the fuel is said to effectively recycle it, rather than releasing additional CO2 that is locked underground in fossil fuels.

The fuel offers an octane number of over 98 and a bio-ethanol content of less than 1 percent.

The initial range includes three variants, all suitable for year-round use, and Coryton says more stockists are set to launch across the UK in the coming months.

Super 80:

  • Contains at least 80% renewable content.

  • Delivers a greenhouse gas (GHG) saving of over 65% compared to fossil fuels.

  • Compliant with 98RON (Super Unleaded) EN228 standards.

  • Includes a multifunctional deposit control additive package to maintain engine cleanliness and performance.

  • Priced from £4.65 per litre.

Super 33:

  • Contains at least 33% sustainable content.

  • Delivers a GHG saving of over 25% compared to fossil fuels.

  • Compliant with 98RON (Super Unleaded) EN228 standards.

  • Includes a multifunctional deposit control additive package to maintain engine cleanliness and performance.

  • Priced from £3.80 per litre.

Racing 50:

  • High-performance sustainable petrol designed for vehicles requiring higher-octane fuel.

  • Contains at least 50% renewable content.

  • Delivers a GHG saving of over 35% compared to fossil fuels.

  • Compliant with 102RON (high octane) EN228 standards.

  • Includes premium deposit control additives to maintain engine cleanliness and performance.

  • Priced from £5.24 per litre.

The range comes following a survey conducted by classic car insurance specialists Footman James, which found that 76 percent would prefer to opt for synthetic fuels to power their classic cars, rather than have them converted to battery power.
