The second company to emerge through IGNITION, Honda's new business creation program, Striemo Inc., has just been launched today.

It’s a one-person, three-wheeled electric micro-mobility scooter, also known as Striemo. It contains a balance assist mechanism that is designed to enable stable riding with minimal risk of falling, irrespective of the speed you are travelling. Striemo is expected to go on sale in Europe in 2023 and Japan before the end of 2022.

The scooter is designed to make it simpler for the user to maintain balance on their own. A video released by Honda shows Yotaro Mori demonstrating the scooter's abilities in a variety of day-to-day scenarios.

Specifications include overall measurements of 1090mm in length, 4800mm in width, and a height of 1180mm. The scooter's weight is approximately 20 kg, and its top speed is 25 kmh (16 mph). A Striemo takes 3.5 hours to charge fully and accommodates up to 30 km (18 miles) of travel per charge. The specifications are based on the current Japanese prototype, so it may be subject to changes in the final product.

Yotaro Mori, Co-Founder & CEO of Striemo Inc, commented: "One of the fun factors of mobility is discovery and first encounters. I developed Striemo based on my desire to enable more people to experience such fun and my challenging spirit to create a means of transportation which lets anyone go out more spontaneously."

"Striemo is a new mobility product developed while leveraging know-how in the area of "human studies," which I amassed through my experience in the development of motorcycles at Honda", continues Yotaro Mori. "My goal is to make Striemo one of the most commonly used mobility products in people's everyday lives around the world and create a better world where people enjoy the freedom of mobility."

The Honda new business creation initiative, IGNITION, showcases original technology, concepts, and designs to help solve social problems and find new ways to produce value for customers and society. Launched in 2017 the first startup to emerge was Ashirase Inc., a company that creates shoes with a navigation system that consists of a smartphone app and a motion sensor-equipped vibration device to assist the visually impaired, founded in 2021.
