The Polestar 5 is a high-performance, electric, four-door GT that is designed to have the credentials of a true sports vehicle. It is the production version of the 2020 Precept concept car.

Polestar currently sells and operates automobiles throughout Europe, China, the United States and the Asia-Pacific region, with its headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden. The company anticipates that its electric vehicles (EVs) will be offered in 30 markets by 2023. Currently, Polestar vehicles are produced in two sites in China, with further production in the USA planned in the future.

The UK team has seized the chance to work with a new mechanical platform in order to design and construct a special bonded aluminium chassis, a key component in delivering the vehicle dynamics characteristic to deliver a driving experience that is as appealing as the design. "Polestar 5 is shaping up to be a superb 4-door GT and a true Polestar at heart. The platform combines low-volume performance car attributes with modern technological advances to bring light-weight, high-rigidity sports car chassis technology into mass production." Said Pete Allen, Head of Polestar UK R&D.

A brand-new, top-of-the-line electric powertrain is currently being developed in Sweden. A new rear electric motor and 800-Volt design will provide the enhanced output. The entire twin motor engine intends to produce 650 kW (884 horsepower) and 900 Nm when combined with a high-output front electric motor. Jörg Brandscheid, Polestar's CTO and Head of R&D, said: "The new powertrain we are working on will set a new brand benchmark in our high-performing cars. Combining strong electric motor engineering ability with advances in light-weight platform technology leads to truly stunning driver's cars."

The Polestar Precept, a 2020 manifesto concept car that exemplified the company's future ambition for design, technology, and sustainability, will be replaced by the Polestar 5 electric performance 4-door GT when it goes on sale in 2024. By 2030, Polestar wants to build an entirely climate-neutral car with each new model.

Polestar CEO, Thomas Ingenlath, commented: "Polestar 5 is a company-defining project. Its progressive design and advanced engineering set the tone for Polestar's future. We have great talent on board, enabling us to create truly iconic EVs."

From October 2022, Polestar expects to introduce one new electric car year, starting with the Polestar 3, the company's first electric performance SUV. In 2023, the smaller, electric Polestar 4 SUV coupe is expected.

Throughout the Goodwood Festival, Polestar 5's made two ascents of the reputed Goodwood hill each day as part of the "First Glance" group. It will be the third new EV from Polestar to be released in the next three years, joining the electric SUVs Polestar 3 and Polestar 4. The automobile is scheduled to be on sale in 2024.

In much more significant information than is typically disclosed throughout a car project, Polestar's YouTube documentary series demonstrates how the business is converting the Precept idea into the Polestar 5 production model.
