Renault has added a new top-of-the-range trim, the Iconic, to its Megane E-Tech.

Its most notable feature which sets it apart from other trim types is the firm’s new heat pump which it says has been patented by Renault engineers to increase the efficiency of the car’s  heating system.

According to Renault, the heat pump recovers heat generated by the battery and electric motor, and uses it to warm the cabin while minimizing the impact on range. It also takes less energy to heat the cabin than a traditional heat pump, providing greater energy-efficient heating.

When the outside temperature drops below 10°C, the range of the Megane E-Tech 100 percent electric is claimed to increase by up to nine percent on highways, while keeping the cabin comfortable.

The Iconic also offers more colour options and standard features, such as 20-inch alloy wheels and a nine-speaker audio system from specialist audio firm Harman Kardon.

Further standard equipment on the Iconic-specced Megane E-Techs include a nine-inch infotainment system, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a smart rearview mirror.

With an electric driving range of up to 280 miles, a 0-62 mph time of 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 99 mph, the Megane E-Tech 100 percent electric starts at £36,995, which increases to £41,995 for the new, range-topping Iconic trim.
