The latest addition to the Vauxhall Astra lineup introduces a novel mild-hybrid powertrain, enriching the range that already includes pure-petrol, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric variants.

This newly unveiled Astra Hybrid serves as a sophisticated bridge, melding the straightforward efficiency of pure-petrol engines with the heightened eco-friendliness of plug-in hybrids.

At the heart of the Astra Hybrid's powertrain lies a turbocharged 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine. This engine, on its own, delivers a robust 134bhp and 230Nm of torque.

Complementing this, the system incorporates a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, which ingeniously integrates an electric motor. This motor not only contributes an additional 28bhp and 55Nm of torque but is also powered by a compact 0.89kWh lithium-ion battery. This setup enables the Astra Hybrid to glide over short distances solely on electric power, optimising efficiency during low-speed manoeuvres and city driving.

Moreover, the electric assist boosts acceleration, subtly reducing the 0-62mph sprint time compared to its pure-petrol counterpart, while also enhancing fuel economy and diminishing CO2 emissions.

The exterior design of the Astra Hybrid remains the same, and is available in both hatchback and Sport Tourer estate variations. Inside meanwhile, every model comes generously equipped with features designed to enhance the driving experience, most notably the large 10-inch touchscreen that provides seamless connectivity with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other standard equipment includes LED headlights.

In addition, the Astra Hybrid offers an array of driving assistance systems to ensure safety and convenience. Lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control are standard across the range, with higher-tier models benefiting from additional luxuries such as heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and Vauxhall’s IntelliLux adaptive LED Pixel headlights, alongside a 360-degree parking camera for improved visibility.

In terms of pricing, the Astra Hybrid has a starting price of £30,025.
