Ford has unveiled its new electric compact van, the E-Transit Courier, as part of the company's plan to electrify its commercial vehicles.

The vehicle is said to have been completely redesigned around a larger, more flexible cargo area, meaning 26 percent more load volume than the outgoing model.

The all-electric powertrain makes 136 PS from its motor, but battery capacity and range remain unconfirmed for now.

Ford has however confirmed the vehicle’s support for DC fast charging of up to 100 kW, which the company expects will add 54 miles of range in 10 minutes, as well as a 10-80 per cent charge time in less than 35 minutes.

The E-Transit Courier will also come with a year of complimentary access to Ford’s BlueOval Charge Network, which is set to include 500,000 public chargers by 2024.

Inside the vehicle is a "digiboard" instrument panel, which includes a 12-inch digital cluster and a 12-inch central touchscreen featuring Ford's latest SYNC 4 infotainment system.

The system includes subscription-based Connected Navigation, which can provide updates on traffic, parking, charging and local hazards, as well as support for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard.

In addition, the E-Transit Courier includes Ford’s ‘Office Pack’ which provides a foldaway table and additional interior lighting.

Part of Ford's $50bn+ global push to lead the EV revolution, the E-Transit Courier is the latest addition to its electrified Transit family of commercial vehicles, joining the larger E-Transit and E-Transit Custom models in the Ford Pro portfolio.

The electric variant of the Transit Courier is expected to arrive approximately a year after the combustion versions, which will launch in the third quarter of 2023. These ICE versions will be powered by either a 1.0-liter petrol or a 1.5-liter diesel. The last variant to launch will be the Tourneo passenger model, which will also come with an electric option.
