Well-recognised US Motoring Company DeLorean, has just announced the upcoming release of the new all-electric Alpha5 for the first time after 40 years. Taking inspiration from its previous model, DMC-12, with the same gull-wing doors, the all-new electric vehicle (EV) teased the public with the first images of the new DeLorean. It was designed by Giorgietto Giugiaro, the same designer who came up with the DMC-12 car, famously recognised in the 1980s.

The DeLorean Motor Company is an automotive icon that dates back to the 1980s due to the DMC-12's feature in the hit movie Back To The Future. The Motoring Company collapsed under debt and supposed drug dealing in the 1980s, despite owner John DeLorean being relieved of all charges against him and not found guilty. Now 40 years later, DeLorean is back in the electric motor market.

First in the comeback line-up will be the new Alpha V (five), an all-electric and high-performance sport coupe that will debut in August 2022 at Pebble Beach. Revisioned as an all-electric car, the Alpha5 will carry a 100kWh battery that ranges up to 300 miles. Reaching a top speed of 155 mph (miles per hour), DeLorean claims the EV can go from 0-60mph in 2.99 seconds. In reference to the film Back To The Future, which made the car iconic, the Alpha5 states the time to reach 88 mph in 4.35 seconds, the speed famously known to which Doc Emmet Brown's equipped DMC DeLorean reached to induce Maty McFly's travel through time.

Aside from the revised all-electric version of DeLorean's comeback car, changes to its now modern interior make the EV now a four-seater instead of a two-seater. In addition, users can find two digital screens allocated in the centre console for settings and infotainment and one digital screen behind the steering wheel.

DeLorean sheds light on the electric car's exterior features in a series of images with details. Looking at the sketches put out by DeLorean of the upcoming Alpha5 EV, based on its dimensions, the new all-electric model is longer and wider than the original, 40-year-old DeLorean model. The Alpha5 includes two exterior paint colours, alongside a limited edition colour launch that will be used in the vehicle's debut in August, Pebble Beach, US.

Chief Marketing Officer at DeLorean Motor Company, Troy Beetz, said: "Taking design cues from the past to inspire the future, the new EV visibly showcases its iconic DNA. The Alpha5 is a representation of the past 40 years of DeLorean. There was this enormous responsibility to ensure we honoured the history of the DeLorean brand, but an even greater responsibility in curating its future, and I think we did both with the Alpha5."

DeLorean has remained silent on the pricing of the DeLorean Alpha5 EV, either keeping it a secret ahead of its debut or whether pricing has been established yet. The Alpha5's official premiere is on August 18th at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance event, California, US. Ahead of the debut, CEO Joost de Vries will be speaking at the Electrify Expedition in Long Beach, California, in July 2022.
