MG has taken its family-oriented EV, the MG4, and given it some performance upgrades, resulting in the creation of the new MG4 XPower.

Priced at £36,495, the car will be available for order starting in July, and will make its official public debut at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed.

It utilises the same Modular Scalable Platform as the standard MG4, but features a dual-motor setup that delivers a combined power output of 429bhp and 600Nm of torque. The front wheels receive 204bhp while the rear wheels receive 231bhp.

This upgraded configuration enables the XPower to accelerate from 0 to 62mph in 3.8 seconds, four seconds faster than the standard MG4, while its top speed reaches 124mph.

MG has also equipped the XPower with 25 percent stiffer suspension, stiffer anti-roll bars and more responsive steering.

While the XPower focuses on improved performance, its exterior design retains a more understated appearance. Notable features include orange 'XPower' brake callipers and 18-inch alloys exclusive to the XPower variant.

As expected, the increased performance comes at a cost to efficiency. The XPower model offers a WLTP range of 239 miles, which is slightly lower than the 281 miles of the standard Trophy model.

However, MG says the XPower can achieve a 10-80 percent charge in just 35 minutes thanks to its 150kW rapid charging capability.

Inside the car, the layout is similar to the standard MG4 model, featuring a 10.25-inch touchscreen. However, there's now Alcantara sports seats and metal pedals.
