Zinc Sports, a brand known for producing electrified two-wheelers such as bikes, scooters and skateboards, has partnered with Formula E to create a new range of electric micromobility vehicles.

The first model in this range is an e-scooter dubbed the Zinc Formula E GZ1 Series. It can travel up to 13 miles on a single charge and has a top speed of 15.5mph.

Safety features include a front headlight that automatically responds to weather conditions, as well as indicators to signal a change in direction.

The Formula E GZ1 also has a built-in gyroscopic system for regulating speed and providing a stable ride.

Despite the firm’s efforts to make its latest e-scooter road-ready, privately owned e-scooters remain illegal in the UK for use on public roads, and can only be ridden on privately owned land.

Only e-scooters that are part of the government’s approved trial can be ridden on public roads, though this is set to change with the new Transport Bill, which will introduce a new category for low speed zero emission vehicles.

Chirag Shah, Zinc Sports chief operating officer said: “We’re bringing our 15 years’ experience of manufacturing scooters to the partnership and this means that each model in the range will boast the innovation you’d expect from Formula E at an accessible price that means more people can eventually access the benefits of an e-scooter commute”.

Formula E’s chief commercial officer, Matt Scammel added: “Together with Zinc Sports, we are excited to explore the world of micromobility.

“While Formula E is focused on accelerating the development of electric cars, we can also see how e-scooters could play a role in sustainable urban transport in the future subject to regulatory approval.”

A further six models in the Formula E range will launch over the next 12 months, which will include two additional e-scooters, three e-bikes as well as a kick scooter.

The Zinc Formula E GZ1 Series Electric Scooter is priced at £399,99 and can be purchased now from Argos and Zinc Sports' website.
