Citroën's brand-new flagship vehicle, the C5 X, entered the UK market at the tail end of July 2022. A duo of petrol engines are offered alongside a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) alternative that utilises a 12.4kWh battery, providing up to 37 miles of full electric range (WLTP combined). A 7.4kW Type 2 charging cable is also provided with the latter, and is capable of a full charge in 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Initial customer deliveries will begin in August, with prices starting at £27,790 for the petrol-powered C5 X, and £36,470 for the PHEV model. ‘Sense Plus’, ‘Shine’ and ’Shine Plus’ are the three trim grades available, with six metallic or pearlescent body colours and a bi-tone roof further bloating the options list.

Two petrol engines - the 130 PureTech and 180 PureTech - are paired with Citroën’s EAT8 8-speed automatic transmission. The 1.6-litre 180 PureTech engine is combined with an 81kW electric motor to allow the PHEV models to produce 225 horsepower and 360 Nm of torque.

Safety equipment is also plentiful, with technologies such as Long Range Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Extended Traffic Sign Recognition included. Additional features comprise of Active Safety Brake, Highway Integrated Assist, 360-Vision, Collision Risk Alert, Active Lane Departure Warning System and Speed Recommendation.

The C5 X range benefits from Citroën’s Advanced Comfort Programme, which includes updated seats and suspension. All models also contain 15mm of additional memory foam padding as standard, which offers more support during lengthy trips. The Advanced Comfort Seats can also be ordered with ventilation in addition to heating and massaging features.

A brand new expanded head-up display cluster is available in the C5 X, with all necessary driving information projected 4.5 metres ahead of the driver’s line of sight. The windscreen can be set to display important data such as navigation, driving assistance and speed statistics.

Citroën’s revamped infotainment unit also makes its debut with the Drive Plus system, and is headlined by a 12-inch HD touchscreen that features ambient illumination. Users can configure their own user profiles and personal screen settings, as well as customise their favourite shortcuts as key functions. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across all new C5 X models.
