Volvo’s spin-off performance brand, Polestar, is set to debut its first SUV among its all-electric line-up on 12 October.

Built upon a new all-electric base that’s also shared with its sister company, Volvo, Polestar says the 3 will feature “the latest in technological advancements”. Those include core computing powered by NVIDIA, as well as a host of safety systems provided by key industry suppliers like Zenseact, Liminar and Smart Eye.

Polestar CEO, Thomas Ingenlath, said: “We had to ask ourselves: ‘what should a modern SUV look like?’ Polestar 3 defines the SUV for the electric age and in designing it, we addressed some of the fundamentals of the archetype: proportions, stance and aerodynamics.”

Polestar says all launch edition models will play host to a dual motor powertrain based at the rear end, and a dual clutch system that allows torque vectoring capabilities.

In terms of output, the optional Performance Pack means the 3 produces a claimed 483bhp (360kW) of power and 910 Nm of torque. It also features Polestar’s adaptive dual-chamber air suspension and active dampers, which enables the car to readjust itself to changes in road conditions every two milliseconds.

“It’s this instant ability to transform from a comfortable cruiser to a sharp, agile performance car in less than the blink of an eye that makes Polestar 3 special as an electric performance SUV. It also benefits from a low centre of gravity and wide track for ultimate stability, and an exciting feeling behind the wheel.”

First announced earlier this year, the launch event for the 3 will commence at 7pm CEST (5pm GMT) on 12 October, and will be presented by Polestar CEO, Thomas Ingenlath, and Polestar’s Head of Design, Maximilian Missoni.
